“The Retort Courteous.” In the course of a discussion arising out of the suggestion that tea hostesses for the Palmerston North Townswomen’s Guild should be chosen from all members in alphabetical order ,one member at a recent meeting intimated that elderly members might evade their duties by providing a substitute. “But there are no elderly ladies in the guild,” was the tactful comment of the president (Mrs. A. E. Mansford), further discussion being lost in the spontaneous laughter that greeted the remark.
