Sports Postponed Owing to the wet condition of the sports ground at Porangahau the annual gathering of the Porangahau Sports Club has been postponed until Saturday, March 14. School Excursion The combined schools excursion, by rail, to Napier, from the Takapau, Marakeke, Hatuma and school centres in the Takapau countryside is to take place on Thursday next. Hospital Supplies
Tenders closing on Monday, March 9, and addressed to the managing- . .secretary of the Waipawa Board, are invited for supplies to the Waipukurau Hospital and the Pukeora Sanatorium for the year commencing April 1. Slip on Taihape Road
It was reported late last night that a slip had come down on the Taihape road, but phone inquiries in the district failed to corroborate the story. The informant said that •'•'half a hili’’ had come down and that it would probably be a fortnight before the road would be open again.
A Modest Writing Off
The Central Hawke’s Bay Electric Power Board is able to rhow, in a recently adopted statement prepared by the secretary-manager (Mr G. E. Fowler), that the amount to be written off this year for bad debts was only £5 9/4. This is a very satisfactory figure having in view fact that £23.000 is handled per annum.
An Australian Enterprise
At least 20 young persons have been asked to send £lO (or the first instalment of £l2 on terms) to a firm in Melbourne by the next mail for training for jobs which they are assured they will be given in Wellington by the end of May next, states the “Dominion.” These 20, and there may be more, answered an advertisement published at the end of January for five young men, two young women and two youths. The scheme, according to the advertisement is for "a progressive advertising house” in Wellington. Mt. Herbert Golf Club’ The annual meeting of the Mt, Herbert Golf Club was held on Tues-Xj day evening, Mr J. A. King presid-< ing over a moderate attendance of members. The annual report and balance sheet, showing a healthy financial position, were adopted. Pleasure was expressed at the cooperation given by members in erecting the new club-house. The following officers were elected:—Patron. Mr L. M. Monckton; president, Mr King; vice-president, Mr J. H. Hopkinson; secretary, Mr M. A. Mcßae; club captain. Mr K. McKenzie; committee. Messrs J. Hankey, M. Yarwood, J. Turtle, and E. Bliss. The opening date of the season was left in the hands of the incoming committee. Tubercular Treatment In connection with the establishment. of tuberculosis clinics the matter is yet in its infancy, but on Monday the Waipawa and Palmers North Boards completed an agreement as to transferring female patients to £he Pukeora Sanatorium. The Otaki Sanatorium has been overcrowded of late, the limit being 65 patients, and the additions to the Pukeora Sanatorium total will bring the number of occupied beds to 135. The Palmerston North Board is to engage in a building scheme to aci commodate up to 100 patients. There lis at present a large number of suffers on the waiting list. The two i boards mentioned are paying special attention to the* call for dealing with incipient cases of tuberculosis. Atrocity charges are levelled against Britain by the Fascist Press. The atrocities include the Bloody Assize of Judge Jeffreys in 1685. ;
