Steamer’s Fast Passage.

A fast passage from Geelong, Australia, To New Plymouth was recorded by the steamer Kartigi, which reached port on Friday of last week. The Kartigi made the Tasman crossing in six days six hours, which for a vessel of its size (2347 tons), is a particularly meritorious performance, and about a day and a half under the normal time taken for the trip. One of the factors that played an important part in the speedy completion of the voyage was the weather. General cargo was taken aboard at Adelaide, and the vessel then proceeded to Edithburg, where she loaded salt and barley for New Zealand ports. At Geelong one thousand tons of wheat was required urgently and the Kartigi was wirelessed to divert from her course for Auckland to New Plymouth as fast as possible.

Sporting and Dramatic “Holidays in the Open” makes an appropriate page for the illustrations in the Christmas week issue of the “Sporting and Dramatic Review,” views of camping making a cnrect appeal, while the night swimming carnival at the Tepid Baths is another subject of special interest. The centre pages contain outstanding groups of the Auckland Bowling Club, the Carlton Bowling Club, Marist Brothers old pupils, Royal College of Surgeons, and King’s College. Tennis devotees will devote their attention to the Curran Street Tennis Club team and John Court’s Club, while on another page are the Welcome Tennis Club (Parnell), Playhouse Players in costume, and members of the Radio Transmitters’ Association.
