SPEECH REPUDIATED
MR. MUNRO’S REMARKS
SACRIFICED FOR PARTY?
DUNEDIN, Last Night
A suggestion that Mr. J. W. Munro is to be sacrificed to save the party is contained in an apologia for his colleague, which was made to-night by Dr. D. G. McMillan, Labour candidate for Dunedin West.
Replying to a question as to whether he was in agreement with the
report of Mr. Munro’s speech as published, Dr. McMillan said he could not believe that Mr. Munro had spoken thus, because it was contrary to fact. If State employees did not obey instructions they were given a month’s notice, and the same thing applied to the directors of the Reserve Bank if they declined to'carry out a policy in the interests of the people. Dr. McMillan added that anyone who talked about gaols, bread and water, and smashing things, needed pinching to bring him back to earth.
