SECOND EDITION WAIPAWA SEAT

MR ORMOND’S STAND HAVELOCK NORTH SUPPORT A meeting of nearly two hundred representatives of the Waipawa electorate, at a meeting held in Havelock North last eventing, passed the following resolution:— “We the supporters of the National Party fin the Waipawa electorate, meeting at Havelock North, believing that Mr Ormond has the support and confidence of the greatest part of the electors, should not be persuaded by any statements mad® during the present electoral campaign.. We welcome with pleasure his announced decision not to withdraw from the contest, and urge on the electors tlhie desirability of electing a young man to Parliament. We express our sincere belief that if Mr Ormond were to withdraw from the contest, hundreds of electors would feel that he had committed a breach of faith; and also we believe thalli many who will vote for Mr Ormond would, if he were to withdraw, vote for Labour.” GOVERNMENT CANDIDATE MR JULL AT HAVELOCK NORTH Although the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates had an overflow meeting at the Havelock North Town Hall on Wednesday afternoon and his address did not finish until imearly 6 p.m., the hall was again crowded at 8 p.m. to hear an address by the official National candidate, MT A. E. Jull, for the Waipawa electorate, who delivered a most forceful address in defence of the Government’s policy. Mir -Tull made his points in a most decisive manner, and met with great applause. After answering a number of questions. which showed his complete mastery of the political situation and he was accorded, on the motion of Mir P. F. Hunter, a unanimous vote of thanks. The mover intimated that the address was mostl instructive and hoped that the voters would rally 100 per cent behind Mr .Tull on. election day. Mir J. B. Campbell presided and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.

Yesterday afternoon Mr .Tull met a gathering of electors at tho Blackburn School, and delivered an address that was warmly and cordially received. Mr J. Alder presided, -and the candidate received the usual compliments at tho enld of the meeting. In the evening Mr Jull was at Wakakara, where over 40 electors were in attendance, Mr J. Bainbridge, presiding. Mr Tull’s address was along the lines of his previous speeches, and at the conclusion 'he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks on the motion of Mr Hector McNeil. LABOUR CANDIDATE RECENT MEETINGS Further addresses have been delivered by Mr. H. M. Christie, the official Labour candidate, at Havelock, Whakatu, Clive, Kereru and Maraekakaho.

All meetings have been well attended, and the candidate has been assured that very strong support is forthcoming. At Havelock Mr. Christie mentioned the absurdity of the statement that Labour would receive only 1700 votes in the Waipawa electorate. “I am making an honest straightforward appeal,” the candidate said. “I am not flooding the electorate with printed propaganda, and I leave the summing-up to the commonsense of the electors.” The candidate appealed to all supporters to record their vote.
