STEAMER’S DISTRESS
The Lindenbank
ADVICE TO P. & T. DEPARTMENT
WIRELESS COMMUNICATION

The Director-General of the Post and Telegraph Department received this morning from, the superintendent of the Awarua Radio Station particulars in referenlce to signals from the distressed steamer Lindenbank. At 4.50 aflmfl the Lindenbank wirelessed its position as “Carpenter Rocks, .082 degrees 8$ miles, propeller lost, require assistance. ” At 5.16 a.m. the Maloja repeated the message, adding: “Our distance from the Lindenbank is 560 miles.” At 5.23 the Lindenibank sent out an 5.0.0. wffi a request for immediate assistance.
At 5.35 the Adelaide radio station advised the Lindenbank that the steamer Iron Monarch was in the latitude 34.58 south, longitude 138.2.1 east. At 5.37 the steamer British Strength called thd Lindenbank and gave its position as 38.21 south, 138.52 east. It was indicated that the ship had ben bound for Melbourne at. a speed of 10$ knots.
At 5.39 the Aseinius was advised that the positiion of the Lindenbank was 35.29 south, 137.25 east. At 545 a.m. the British Strength ladvised the Adelaide Radio Station that the vessel was 75 miles southwest of the Lindenbank.
At 5.50 the British Strength called the Litdenbank and advised: “We are steering for your position and expect to arrive at 11 a.m. ship’s time. This was acknowledged by the Lindenbank.
At 6.20 a.m. ,the Adelaide Radio Station was in communication with the Dindenbank, being advised that the ship was experiencing strong west-south-westerly winds, and a heavy swell.
With the approach of daylight the Lindenbank’s sfgnals, which hitherto had been of good strength, faded out.
