RT. HON. DAVID LLOYD GEORGE “THE WELSH WIZARD’’ Yesterday marked the seventy-sec-ond birthday of the Rt. Hon. David Lloyd George, 0.M., M.P., father of the House of Commons since 1929, Prime Minister from 1916 to 1922 jand the most brilliantly colourful British statesman of the century. Throughout the Empire, this clever orator and able thinker is known as I the Welsh Wizard. At an age when ! most men would be content to spend I their days in retirement dreaming of : great triumphs of the past, he is still almost daily in the news and the alliance of silver tongue and active brain is apparently as potent as ever. | Mr. Lloyd George has represented 1 Carnarvon in Parliament for fortyi five years. In 1905, he was made j president of the Board of Trade, and, in 19(18, under Mr. Asquith, ChanI collor of the Exchequer, holding that | office untiil 1915. In financing the | war un to June, 1915, he showed ‘ great capacity. On the formation of (the CoaPtion Government, he became i Minister of Munitions, and, on the I death of I.ord Kitchener, Secretary ] for War. I As a war Prime Minister he displayed activity, resourcefulness and ( driving power that proved a tre- ■ mendous influence in bringing about I the defeat of Germany, while, at the I Peace Conference, with Clemenceau ' and President Wilson .supporting him, he was the master spirit.
