DISPUTE SETTLED
Waihi Miners’ Strike Ends GENERAL RELIEF FELT TERMS OF AGREEMENT (Per Press Asssociation) WAIHI, This Day. The news that the strike had ended was received with a feeling of relief by all sections of the community. The exact terms of the settlement were not disclosed until last night, when a mass meeting of members of the unions concerned was held. At the conclusion a statement was issued to the effect that the agreement provided for the restoration of 1931 conditions from November 23rd and 1932 rates of wages, which will include 8d bonus from the present date to November 23rd. An adjustment was made in the matter of retrospective payments, by increasing the present bonus of 8d a day to lOd a day from September 1 to November 23.
Delegates gave their report to a crowded meeting, which passed a resolution expressing thanks and confidence in the delegates, who represented the men throughout the negotiations with the company. The agreement will continue in force until May 5, 1937. BLACKWATER DISPUTE (Per Press Association) REEFTON, This Day. A committee under the Labour Disputes Investigation Act sat yesterday under the chairmanship of Mr. W. Meldrum, regarding the wage dispute at the Blackwater mines and Blackwater Mines Limited. The miners asked for an increase of 2/- a day and 5/- per foot or fathom for contractors. The company suggested paying the same rates as had been agreed upon at Waihi, plus the extra amount always paid in this field as compared with Waihi for similar work. No agreement was arrived at and the matter is now referred to the Minister of Labour.
