A LORRY’S DIVE
OVER FORTY FEET BANK OCCUPANTS’ NARROW ESCAPE! j The two occupants of a lorry hud a miraculous escape from serious injury >on Tuesday, when the vehicle dived down a 4(Jft bank at the Woodville end of the Manawatu Gorge. The driver of the lorry was Mr J. E. Hope, orohardiisF, of Hastings, who had a passenger in the front seat. The vehicle was travelling toward WoodviQle with a '.load of 14 drums of petrol when, at the Woodville cemetery, it collided with a car driven by Mir. William McLean, lorry-driver, of Wellington. The car was coming from the cemetery and was turning toward Palmerston North when the accident occurred. The fro'nit portion of the car was damaged badly. The lorry ploughed through the fence and careered down the bank. The vehicle diid not overturn, buM the drums crashed through the cab, which was wrecked. The front part of the lorry was buried in the bottom of the bank and was also badly damaged. Neither occupant was badly hurt.
