HEALTH STAMPS

Waipukurau Campaign MEETING OF COMMITTEE SATISFACTORY PROGRESS A meeting of the Health Stamp Campaign Committee was held in the Borough Council Chambers last night, the Mayor (Mr. I. W. N. Mackie) presiding over a large attendance. The honorary organiser for Waipukurau (Mr. C. W. Browne) submitted a report on the progress made to date, which was considered most satisfactory. More than £26 had been received in cash donations, whilst ever 2000 Health Stamps, representing £8 15/- to the fund, had been sold. It was decided that a house-to-house canvass be made at an early date for the sale of stamps. The president of the Women’s Institute (Mrs Bromell) stated that the canvass would be undertaken by the members of the Institute. Arrangements are in hand to make up booklets of stamps valued at 2/per booklet. In connection with the street day appeal, which will be held on election day, it was left to Messrs. Mackie and Browne to arrange for collectors. The postmaster made reference to the success of the sale of stamps at the Post Office entrance by volunteer lady sellers, and expressed his thanks for the assistance rendered. The members of the Women’s Institute have offered to supply volunteer sellers for the next two Tuesdays. OTANE COMMITTEE’S WORK A meeting of the Otane Health ■ Camp Campaign Committee was held in the library on Tuesday evening, ! Mr. R. H. White presiding. The secretary, Mr. Voyce, reported that , headquarters had advised that the L extra effort this year was to bring the benefits of the health camps more prominently before the public, who - would realise the claims these camps ’ had for support and would voluntar--5 ily contribute in future years. It • was intended that on the first week - in each October the public would be 5 asked to give what assistance they ' could.

A letter was received from Mr. Tierney offering to give the net proceeds of a picture entertainment to be held on Friday. The offer was accepted, and it was decided to have tickets printed, members to endeavour to sell as many as possible. The programme was stated to be an excellent one, featuring some of thb best film artists, including the late Will Rogers. A letter was received from the president of the Elsthorpe Women’s Institute intimating that the institute would make a special effort at its next meeting to assist the campaign. The secretary reported that a supply of badges would be to hand shortly and these would be distributed to those making, donations to the fund.
