SECOND EDITION WINTER WOOL SALE

CROSSBRED CRUTCHINGS SELL WELL IN WELLINGTON Considerable interest centred yesterday in the winter wool sale held by the Wellington Wool Brokers’ Association. The offering was an unusually large one, totalling 4873 bales, comprising 2996 bales of crutehings and 1877 bales of fleece wool. There was a large, and, for the time of year, fairly representative bench of buyers. Competition, especially for crutehings, was very active, and a number of the buyers filled some fairly large orders. Crossbred crutehings brought the highest prices, the best making from 7d up bo 7|d. Halfbred and merino crutehings were not greatly sought after, and many lots were passed in. the bidding for three sorts being somewhat erratic. In view of the Improvement in the wool market during the last few months, it had been expected that there would be a good sale for fleece wools. Bidding, however, was not particularly keen, and in many cases it was plain that growers' ideas of values were well in excess of buyers' limits, with the result that there were many passings. Best merino fleece wools, of which there was only a small offering, made 10d tol2?d. Hnlfbreds brought 9 1-4 d to llfd. In crossbreds, average 4648’s made 8d to 44-46’s 7 1-4 d to Bd. and 40-44’s 64d to 7 1-4(1. Official Range of Prices Following is the official range of prices at yesterday’s sale:—
