A SAFE BLOWN OPEN

THIEVES’ BIG HAUL AUCKLAND JEWEL ROBBERY (Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, Last Night. For the second time within a year the premises of James Pascoe, jewellers, of Karangahape Road, were robbed last night or early this morning. On September 20 last burglars entered through the skylight and stole £l4OO worth of jewellery. Since then the skylight has been bolted from the inside, but burglars last night climbed to a window on the second floor, used a hacksaw on the iron bars and crawled through. They blew open one safe with gelignite, forced their way into the stockroom, spent some time in the warehouse and opened another safe, from which they took everything of value, including a bar of gold, gold fillings and many precious stones to the value of £7OO. From other parts of the premises they stole general jewellery of a value not fully ascertained, but known to exceed £lOOO.
