HASTINGS TOURNEY ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIP The weather was fine but a strong southerly wind made playing conditions difficult for the first day’s play in the Hastings Golf Club’s annual tournament at Bridge Pa yesterday. There is a large number of players participating. The links are in excellent order. The two qualifying rounds were playe<j yesterday, J. Black heading the list by seven strokes with 152. Black is a Wellington player and a member of the Kirk-Windeyer Cup team and runner-up for the New Zealand amateur championship. A medal match was played* in conjunction with the second round, being won by N. R. C. Wilson. The first sixteen qualify for the championship, the second 16 for the Longlands Handicap and the third 16 net scores for the Consolation Handicap. The tournament will be continued to-day and will be concluded to-mor-row. Tn the first two qualifying rounds L. A. Reid (Waipukurau) was one of four players with the second highest score of 159. He was one of four in the eighth position in the Medal Match, with a net score of 73. H. Gair occupied the 20th position in the qualifying rounds with a score of 173, and 18th in the Medal Match with a net total of 75. The score of W. T. Kuru, who was eighth in the qualifying rounds, was 164. Kapi Tareha (one of two in the eleventh position) had a score of 16 9. L. Bishop (ex-Waipukurau) was in the 13th position in the qualifying rounds, with a total of 170.
