A medical wireless service is maintained by the British Post Office. A ship may ask for advice either by using the signal XXX, which obtains prior radio attention, or by a message addressed to the wireless station. This is at one telephoned to the nearest hospital ,and a reply is promptly sent —the time varying from ten minultes to an hour, according to the availability of a medical officer dompetenit) to deal with the type of case.
