THE WAIPUKURAU PRESS FRIDAY, JULY 19, 1935. VISIT OF THEIR EXCELLENCIES.

The townspeople of Waipukurau and Waipawa, also the settlers of Central Hawke’s Bay, are to-day accoiding a flitting welcome to His Excellency the Governor-General, Viscount Galway, and Viscountess Galway, who are thus early in their Vice-Regal career paying a visit to various parts of the North Island, being homeward bound to Wellington from a tour of the East Coast. Our new GovernorGeneral is known in England as being keenly interested in farming, therefore will be thoroughly ‘‘ at home in this Dominion among country dwellers. He enjoys both theoretical and practical knowledge in the primary industrial sphere. His Excellency has had a distinguished record of service in the British Military Forces, having been a leading officer in the Life Guards in the Great War period, and in 1925 appointed to command that famous regiment. In the hunting field both Lord and Lady Galway have' been prominent figures, and already they have enjoyed participation in a gathering held in the Auckland province. Fishing and golf are other of their pastimes. In the fraternal sphere Lord Galway is a prominent Mason and he has taken an active part in politics, being a strong supporter of the British National Government. There is every reason to believe that Their Excellencies will prove very popular with the people of New Zealand and enjoy a pleasant term in the occupation of Government House.
