BAND OF HOPE
WAIPUKURAU BRANCH MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Band of Hope was held last evening in the Methodist Hall. There was a good attendance, presided over by Mrs. G. Smales..
Several recitations were given by the children, and a fine address by Ensign P. T. Liddy, who stressed the power of the liquor traffic, and pointed out that it is always the first drink that starts a drunkard’s life.
The Superintendent asked the children to deliver dodgers announcing Mr. Dyson’s arrival on May 13, with his lecture and lantern slides on “The Brain,” and supports “Beautiful N.Z.” Members were also asked to make scrap books in their spare time, which will be sent to sick children.
The next Band of Hope meeting on May 16th., will take the form of a social evening and all members and intending members are requested to attend; also parents. One new pledged member was gained. Mrs. Dixon kindly officiated at the organ. Ensign Liddy closed with prayer and a community sing.
