JUNIOR FIREMEN

COMPETITIONS IN NAPIER | SUCCESSFUL DEMONSTRATION Junior members of the Napier, Hast ings, Havelock North, Wairoa and omoaua fire brigades participated in competitions at McLean Park. Napier, on Saturday afternoon. The competitions, which were under the supervision of a committee of Napier and Hastings members, were open to junior members of the brigades who had not previously participated in a United Fire Brigades demonstration, and their object was the raising of the standard of efficiency of the brigades. A large attendance of the public had the opportunity during the afternoon of watching keen competition in a . Classes of the demonstration, and followed tho events with considerable interest. Following are the result*—• Single event.— Hastings B 1, NapiC’ A 2, Napier B 3. Motor event.— Napier 1, Hastings 2, Tomoana 3. Three-men event. Havelock ior 1, Hastings B 2, Tomoana A 3. ’Two-men event.— Hastings C 1. Hastings B 2, Napier C 3. At the completion of the demonstration the prizes were presented by M* G. Milford Taylor, deputy-chairman of the Napier Fre Brigade Brief speeches were made by Superintendent Gilberd, of the Napier Fire Bn gade, ex-Superintendent Keith, of the Hastings brigade, and Superintendent Henderson, of the Hastings brigade. The committee wishes to express i ts thanks to those men who gave their ‘.mnrees as officials during the afternoon.
