Council’s Monthly Meeting HELD THIS MORNING GENERAL MATTERS DISCUSSED The monthly meeting of the ratangata County Council was lieldthm morning, Cr. C. Pattison (chairman) presiding over the following members: —Crs. A. W. S. Longley, C. R. Edgecombe, E. T. Wilder, A. McGaffin, E. C. Nation, W. T. Kittow, H. Parsons, and R. H. White. The clerk <Mr. A. W. Elliott) and the engineer (Mr. J. McLauchlan) were in attendance. Cr. J. JD. Ormond (Junr.) was granted leave of absence. Arbor Day. Notification was received that in future the first Wednesday in August would be observed as Arbor Day. —Recceived. Bridge Loan Charges. The Under-Secretary of the Department of Internal Affairs advised that the question of providing legislation validating the past action of the council in allocating the interest and sinking fund charges on the bridges loan of £209,000 to the several ridings in the county, in proportion to the amount of loan money expended, in each riding, was being further considered. The Audit Department had ruled that the abolition of riding accounts did not automatically validate the council’s past action. The letter was received. Hire of Concrete Mixer. Messrs. Mitchell and King, contractors for the Waipukurau traffic bridge, wrote accepting the- council’s offer to hire its concrete .mixer for £5. —Received. Advice was received that the necessary proclamations had been issued in regard to the Wallingford-Hatuma (Ugly Hill Road) deviation. —Received. Repairs to Road. The Hawke’s Bay County Council asked whether the council would approve of repairs being carried out on the Paiangata boundary road and would contribute the usual subsidy. The cost was estimated at £6o.— The matter was approved. Highways Classification. The Main Highways Board asked whether the council was agreeable to the board’s issuing permits for traffic to exceed highways classifications in cases where the permit was required over a length extending beyond the area of one local authority. It was decided to agree to the suggestion.
