RATES STRUCK

WAIPAWA COUNTY COUNCIL SLIGHT REDUCTIONS MADE Alterations in. The general rates in the ridings of the Waipawa County were made at the monthly meeting of the council yesterday. The new rates are as follow, tho previous figures being shown in parentheses: Waipawa riding Id ((Id); Onga Onga riding 1 3-8 d (1 3-Bd;)Clinton riding, 1 3-8 d; (1 l-4d); Takapau riding Id (1 3-8 d). As a result of the revaluation of the county and possible reductions the chairman, Mr N. M. Paulsen, pointed out that the county would have to rate on a much low r er rateable value. This should be well considered before any reductions were made in this year’s rates. In the Onga Onga riding there would be unusually heavy expenditure. The fact that the Onga Onga riding would have to pay its share towards the cost of the Waipukurau traffic bridge made it impossible for any reduction in the rate in that riding was the opinion expressed by Cr Glcnny. Cr Thomsen thought Clinton riding would be able to manage on the proposed reduced rate. The chairman pointed out that the Waipawa general rate was comprehensive, covering everything. Many other local bodies struck a separate hospital rate. The motion was then adopted. It was decided to strike special rates as follow: —Forest Ghte water-race 3-8 d; Lindsay water-race 3-8 d; Argyll water-race Id. The Takapau sanitation rate was increased from £2 5s to £2 10s.
