Undulant Fever.
A case of undulant fever has been discovered in Mount Eden, Auckland. This disease is contracted through drinking the milk of an aborted cow. The patient is a man. Alleged Interference. The alleged interference with and the non-delivery of correspondence through the Post Office addressed to Rev. A. V. Whiting (Uncle Bert), of IYA radio station at Auckland, was the subject of a question of which notice was given by Mr. A. J. Stallworthy in the House of Representatives. Mr. Stallworthy asked whether the Postmaster-General would institute a searching inquiry into the matter and take what appropriate action was necessary in the circumstances disclosed. A Matter of Sound Opinion.
“If a Chinese has not learned to speak English after living for 14 years in the country, I should not think he would be able to speak even his own language,” said Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in the Police Court at Auckland when doubts were expressed as to a Chinese witness’ ignorance of English. “Just turn this way and face me,” said the magistrate abruptly a few moments later in the middle of the examination. The witness immediately did so, and there was laughter in the Court. The rest of his evidence was completed without the interpreter.
