HATUMA BRANCH MEETS.

ART OF BOOKBINDING.

*.At the June meeting of the Hatuma Worden’s Institute was held on Friday afternoon, the president, Mrs P. A. Riddle, presided over an attendance of 25 members and friends. After the usual business had been transacted the members spent an enjoyable time in dancing. The competition for the afternoon, a sponge sandwich, was judged by Mrs A. M. Schroder, Waipukurau, Miss Jean Wilson being awarded first place, Mrs E. Haldane second, Miss Jessie Wilson third.

A most interesting demonstration on book-binding was given by Mrs F. Mcßoberts, who was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.

The president notified the members that Miss J. Spencer would be attending the August meeting and the competition would be the best baby’s vest made from white heather baby wool, to fit a child up to 12 months. The competition for the July meeting will beT Article made from one yard of britway. Miss Allen was appointed delegate to the Dominion conference, to be held in Wellington on July 25 and 26.

The annual drama festival is to be held in Waipawa on July 11. A vote of thanks was accorded Mrs F. Mcßoberts for the gift of a visitors’ book for the institute. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames W. Fleming, Carey, Bradshawe, Misses Allen and Gordon.

J WALLINGFORD GROUP, j _____ ■ The June meeting of the Wallingford Women’s Institute was held on (Thursday, the president, J. D. ! Ormond, presiding over an attendance of 33 members, including visitors from Porangahau. A most popular and interesting demonstration on the making of pine needle baskets was given by Mrs Neilson, of Norsewood, who was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mrs Neilson also judged the competition of the month, a knitted jersey to fit a child under eight years. Miss Gaston was awarded first place, Mrs G. Jamieson second, Mrs. R. P. Wilder third. The garments from the competition are sent to the relief depot at Waipukurau.

' Mrs J. D. Ormond was appointed delegate to attend the Dominion conference to be held in Wellington next month.

I Final arrangements were made for I the combined Institute and Golf Club dance, which is to be held at the end of the week. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Judd, senr., T. Hobson, D. E. Stoddart and Miss T. Wilder. The singing of the National Anthem brought a cheery afternoon to a close.
