In Her Husband’s Memory.
The Bishop of Chelmsford lately received a gift of £lO,OOO from Mrs J. H. Keene to erect a church in a poor part of the diocese in memory of her husband, Mr John H. Keene, late chairman of an insurance company. Noted for her generosity, Mrs Keene recently built and endowed a number of almshouses in Chelmsford and presented £5OOO to the Royal Free Hospital. both gifts being in her husband’s memory . Test Cricket and Radio So many people sat up to hear the broadcast of the Test match that the Victorian Electricity Commission attained a record output on Friday night, April 8, of 2,096,890 units, chiefly because of the increased use of radios, lights and radiators. Statistics issued by the Postmaster-Gener-al’s department showed that during May there was a record increase of 16,692 wireless listeners’ licenses in Australia. This was obviously due to the Tests.
