“AN EMPTY LAND

<s> M.L.C. PUBLISHES BOOK

ABOUT WESTERN AUSTRALIA LONDON, May 29. No Western Australian curiosity or characteristic, from cyclones to politics, escapes the notice of Sir John Kirwah, in his fascinating book, “An Empty Land,” published by Eyre Spottiswoode. 1 Sir. John gives his observations resulting from a 4000-mile tour of Western Australia. He emphasises the danger of the vast, empty spaces and pays tribute to the courage and resource of the pioneers. The book is not only generally humorous, but details the exploration, natural resources and the pastoral, timber, gold, pearling and whaling industries. Altogether it is a notable account of a century’s adventurous progress of one of the most pronlising States of the Commonwealth. Sir John Kirwan is president of the Legislative Council in Western Australia.
