Rather Surprising
To walk out of an hotel and discover a man sitting is her car and another endeavouring to start the motor, was a rather startling experience for a lady visitor to Palmerston North this week. It is reported that the man starting the motor made off, while the other gave the excuse that he had been invited to have a drive not knowing that the ear did not belong to the individual issuing the invitation. ( Alsatian Dogs Kill Sheep.
Six sheep were killed outright, two others bitten so severely that they had to be destroyed, and five more injured by two Alsatian dogs at One Tree Hill Domain, Auckland, states the New Zealand Herald. Most of the dead, sheep bore signs of having been most savagely attacked and issome of those injured were also bitten severely. One of the two dogs was shot, but the other escaped . The sheep which graze on the domain are the property of Mr S. Robinson, of Claude Road Epsom. Mr Robinson said he lost about 60 sheep a year through dogs mauling them. Those affected by the latest attack had been crossbred ewes in lamb. Late last year he lost 42 ewes and lambs on two nights. One of the dogs was shot by Mr G-. E. Backhurst, caretaker of the Domain, after he had chased them both for some distance. Mr Backhurst said later fhat he saw the two dogs, both AJsatians, among the sheep about He got his shotgun and hut both dogs ran. After a chase M t Backhurst', managed to get near enough to take, a second shot, and sucmcdcd.in hilling one of the dogs. The larger animal escaped.
