INCIDENT IN JAPAN

SHIP’S PASSENGERS ARRESTED AND THEN QUESTIONED HONG KONG, March 29. The detention at Moji, Papan, of ten passengers and the purser of the Eastern and Australian liner Nankin was disclosed on the vessel’s arrival at Hong Kong. Indignant passengers said that the party were driving in three hired cars when they were stopped by the police, and held for questioning. They were taken before a military commissioner and forced to wait two hours in custody while the authorities sought an unnamed man, who accused; the party of taking photographs in a fortified area. The party had no cameras. They were released when the informant could not be discovered. The ship was delayed an hour.
