Miss Patterson, Porangahau, is the guest of Mrs G. Hunter, Wanganui.

Miss O’Donoghue, of Palmerston North, is visiting Waipukurau and is the guest of Mrs C. Murphy.

The death occurred suddenly o>; Good Friday at Te Puna. Station, Wairoa, of Mr John Alexander Patterson, aged 73 years. *

The marriage took place quietly at Waipawa to-day of Edna, second daughter of Mr and Mrs T. E. Whelch, Lake Station, Waipukurau, to Louis Patrick Barrett, of Christchurch.

Mt and Mrs A. Shardlow of Masterton are visitors to Waipukurau for the Easter holiday period. Mr Shardlow was a competitor at the U.D.F.B.A. demonstration.

The engagement is announced of Joyce Evelyn, only daughter of Mr

and. Mrs Walter Krummer "Rangi•ora,” Masterton, to John Allan, younger son of Mr and Mrs John Bibby, "Lunesdale,” Onga Onga, Hawke’s Bay.

Mr and Mrs B. M. Dallas, of Dunedin, were visitors to Central Hawke’s Bay during the Easter holidays and were the guests of Mr T. J. Dallas, Waipawa. Mr and Mrs Dallas left by car to-day for Gisborne, where Mr Dallas has taken over Mr Palairet’s dental practice.

Mr Frank Watson, a well-known local resident, who for a month past has been undergoing treatment in the Waipukurau Public Hospital is reported as progressing favourably. As. a specially enthusiastic fireman and of recent years a member of the Waipukurau Brigade’s demonstration teams, he was naturally very disappointed as to being unable to take part in the '3934 fixture.
