HEAVY DEATH ROLL
FROM STORM IN JAMAICA DAMAGE OF 500,000 DOLLARS KINGSTON (Jamaica), August 17. The revised official list on Thursday night placed the death toll as a result of Wednesday’s flood at 130. It is estimated that it will take 500,000 dollars to restore the homes and provide for the needs of the 50,000 inhabitants affected. An earlier British Official Wireless message states that a telegram from the Governor of Jamaica states than an exceptionally heavy storm struck Kingston and St. Andrew on the night of August 16 and the death roll is 38 at present. Very serious damage was done to roads, bridges and private property. All roads loading out of Kingston are blocked and the water supply is interrupted. The railway service is stopped hut it is hoped to he able to resume within the next 48 hours. Reports from the country districts arc scarce, but it would seem that the main force of the storm was centred on the parishes of Kingston, St. Andrew and St. Katherine.
