I) EP A RTMEN T CRITICISE! > INADEQUATE RATIONING SCHEME DUNEDIN, Last Night. Pointing out that unemployment among teachers would be worse next year, Mr Wallace, chairman of the Education Board, submitted a statement contending that the department had landed the country in a muddle through training too many teachers, and was now trying to restrict the boards to an inadequate rationing scheme. It was resolved to send a copy of the statement to the department and other boards, asking the latter to agree to a conference to put the matter on a better footing. Air. Wallace said it was evident that training more Division C students was unjustified, but the crux of the question was that the department was committed to keeping one training college open next year, and must find students for the staff. The Government had spent £6OOO more on training this year than it would have done under the board’s scheme, and was now committed to further unnecessary cost.
