PERSONAL

Mr and Mrs Meachen, who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs G. Reg. Cook, left for. Dannevirke to-day where Mr Meachen is addressing the Rotary Club at their luncheon. He is also addressing a meeting at Palmerston North before returning to Wellington. The death has occurred at Ashburton, at the age of 85 years, of Mr Edwin James Paul, for over half a century the local representative of the Christchurch “Press.” The territory of the newspaper in the early days extended from Christchurch to the Bluff, and this he covered on horseback. For over fifty years Mr Paul was a member of St. Stephens choir, making sixty years of choir work altogether.
