Sitting At Waipukurau BEFORE MR. A. M. MOWLEM S.M. CASES HEARD TO-DAY A sitting of the Waipukurau Magistrate’s Court was held to-day before Mr A. M. Mowlem, S.M. Traffic Breaches Thomas Power, charged with driving a motor vehicle without being the holder of a driver’s license, was fined 5s with costs 10s.

P. Broderick, on a similar charge, was convicted and discharged. Cecil Alec Banks, charged with driving an unlicensed vehicle and also with driving without holding a license, was convicted on both charges and fined 5/with costs 10/- on the second. The traffic inspector said that defendant, who was unemployed, had been trying to help himself by getting some firewood to sell. He did not think it. was a case for a severe penalty. His Worship said that he admired‘defendant for trying to get off the unemployed, and would treat him. os leniently as possible. W. Clayton was charged with driving a motor vehicle without holding a license. t-' Mr R. W. Bond, Waipawa County engineer, said that defendant, when spoken to, had been very abusive, and had threatened to 11 clean him up.’’ A fine of 10s, with costs 10s, was imposed. After Hours John Lovatt was charged with being found on licensed premises, the!Tavistock Hotel, on July 22, after hours. Constable Sutton said that he had followed defendant and another young man into the hotel and had subsequently caught defendant who was hiding in o. room. The other man, who was a stranger, had escaped. A fine of £l, with costs 10s, was imposed. Undefended Civil Cases Judgment by default was given for plaintiff in the following civil cases: — Blair Bros. v. R. D. Climie, claim £134 8/7; costs £0 17s. Patangata County Council v. Puti Puti Fatima. in respect of her separate estate. £33 10/11, £4 8/0. Patangata County Council v. L. Tipu £4 12/0. £1 9/6. D. W. Neild v. F. C. Winter. £9 9/3, £1 10/6. John Windle v. D. Rodgers £lO 5/-. £2 9/-.
