EXCEPTION TAKEN

By Medical Superintendent REMARKS AT BOARD MEETING MEMBERS EXPRESS REGRET (Per Press Association) STRATFORD, This Day. At the meeting of the Stratford Hosptial Board a report was received from Dr. D. Steven, medical super-, intendent, taking exception to remarks made at the Board meeting on July 18th

Dr. Steven said that the number of nurses who had gone through the hospital during the last five years was 50, not 90. He emphatically refuted any suggestion of undue hardness on the part of the matron. He stated that resignations at Stratford over the period were less than formerly and he believed they were less than in other hospitals

A letter signed by 15 nurses stated they appreciated the methods adopted by the Matron in disciplining the institution and that the statement made by a board member that the matron was too hard was incorrect and absurd.

The letter emphasised the loyalty of the staff to the hospital and the staff expected a reciprocal measure of loyalty from the Board. Resolutions were passed by the board receiving the nurses’ letter and stating that the Doctor’s report on the resignations was considered satisfactory. The board regretted that there had been an error in the figures quoted by the secretary who explained that 90 nurses passed through the hospital in seven, not five years.
