MILITARY AWARDS

Decorations and Medals NEW STANDARD SYSTEM THROUGHOUT THE EMPIRE (Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. In reference to the new regulations gazetted, governing the new system of awards for New Zealand territorials and permanent forces, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, Minister of Defence, points out that the awards have been standardised throughout the Empire. The only difference in standardised decoration so far as New Zealand is concerned will be the name New Zealand in the title on the bar brooch mounting. Decorations and medals replaced in New Zealand by new medals and decorations are: —Colonial auxiliary force officers’ decoration, long service and good conduct medal for Colonial forces, Colonial auxiliary force long service medal, New Zealand long and efficient service medal, and New Zealand territorial service medal, but these continue to be awarded to those officers and other ranks who qualified for them before September 22, 1931, from which date the new awards caine into operation. It is understood that one of the effects of the change in the system will be a reduction in the number of medals awarded for long and effcient service, and that this condition applies to all parts of the Empire.
