ROADS AND STREETS
WORK IN THE BOROUGH REPORT OF THE OVERSEER The Borough Overseer (Mr. H. M. Tansley) submitted the following report to the council at its meeting last evening: — The following streets have been graded with the borough grader: — Herbert Street (Bridge approach), Racecourse Road, Farm Road, Hinemoa Terrace, Tutanekai Road, St. Joseph Street. Maintenance has been carried out on Reservoir Road, Alain Street East, Church Lane, Mt. Herbert Road, Racecourse Road, Porangahau Road, Northumberland Street, Russell Street.’ Jellicoe Street, Farm Road. Men working under the No. 5 Unemployment scheme have b#en engaged as follows: —Working in metal pit, tidying up various streets, clearing growth from sides of watertables, weeding and tidying reserves, and digging main drain at Pah FlatThe secretary of the Waipukurau Relief Workers’ Association has requested me to ask the Council if they will grant the Association the use of one of the end rooms in the borough sheds for use as a secretary’s office and relief depot. The room they wish to occupy is not used at present by the council and they have undertaken to clean up and make everything tidy. The following licenses have been issued and fees received: —Nine heavy traffic, £64 Ils 9d; one hoarding, 10/-; 1 dangerous goods, £3; 6 motor drivers’, £1 10s; making a total of 357 to date. Borough Inspector’s Report The borough inspector submitted the following report; — Water Reticulation. — For the month of February the centrifugal pump ran 213.5 hours. The. number of units of electricity used was 9954 and the estimated amount of water pumped was 4,270,000 gallons. For the corresponding period last year 1 the centrifugal pump ran 167.5 hours using 7728 units of electricity and the estimated amount of water was 3,350,000 gallons. During the early hours of Friday
the 10th inst., a leak developed at a joint of the valve in Holyrood Terrace at the junction of Porangahau Road. Some unknown person was kind enough to communicate this fact per slot telephone at 4.45 a.m. Building Permits. —One permit has been issued at an estimated value of £l3. Fee paid, 5/-. Infectious and notifiable diseases. —No case has been reported within the borough during the month.
