PROFESSKINAL SPH ERE FRANKLIN BEATS CARRIG MASTERTON, Last Night. In ten rounds of a professional featherweight boxing match at Masterton to-night, J. Franklin (Gisborne), Bst. 101 b., defeated E. Carrig (Masterton), Bst. 111 b. The bout went the full distance, but Franklin was clearly superior, and he punished his opponent severely. Carrig was gameness personified, but though he scored nicely at times, he was generally outclassed. It was announced that Johnnie Leckre would meet Franklin at Masterton at Easter. The bout was staged under the auspices of the Wairarapa Boxing Association, and attracted a large attendance. The gmateur preliminaries resulted as follow: — M. Spring (Pahiatua), 10.10, knocked out N. Aface (Wellington), 11.0, early in the third round; Allot (AVellington), 7.8, beat Jack Caldwallader (Greytown), 7.2; J. Davies (Pahiatua), 10.12, beat F. de Silver (AVellington), 10.13; J. Catherall (Masterton), 9.6, beat P. Meachean (AVellington). 9.4.
