BOYS v. PARENTS

CRICKET MATCH YESTERDAY PARENTS’ CRUSHING DEFEAT An interesting cricket match was played yesterday, afternoon when a Waipukurau District High School eleven met a veterans’ team, composed of local parents and teachers, and inflicted a severe beating by 7 wickets and 32 runs. Batting first Veterans put up a very poor showing, only two batsmen scoring more than 2 runs. Nelson (18) was the most successful. Chapman, Janies and Jamieson were the bowlers. High School's reply was not much better, six “ducks” being recorded, but with the help of 34 from James and 13 from Murphy a total of 59 was reached. Nelson captured 6 wickets for 16 runs. In their second innings Veterans made a good recovery with a score of 90 for the loss of only 4 wickets, and declared their innings closed. C. W. Smith (36 not out) and Phillips were helpful batsmen. High school went one better in their second stand with a score of 94 for the loss of three wickets —Jamieson 44, Smart 23, and Petersen 19. VETERANS * First Innings H.
