“WORE COLLARS”
FAILED TO GET WORK FARMERS WERE SUSPICIOUS
DUNEDIN, March 6. Regarding themselves as a burden on their respective families, two young Auckland business men who have been out of employment for nearly a year decided to leave-that city and look for work elsewhere. Now they are in Dunedin, having tramped practically the length of the country in a fruitless search for employment. These young wanderers cheerfully ascribe their failure to the fact that they are city men. Single, and decently clothed, they left Auckland, where they say it is impossible for a single man to got even a living wage. Their suits were good and they endeavoured to keep them as clean as possible, but. their general appearance failed to satisfy any of the farmers whom they encountered that they had a genuine desire for employment. They told a reporter that the wearing of collars and ties seemed to convince farmers that they were impostors. This, apparently, is one of tho things that is ‘‘not done” on tho road.
