SPURIOUS COINS
Maker Pleads Guilty USED THEM TO BUY FOOD “CLUMSY CONTRIVANCES” (Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. Thomas Warren 1 a labourer, who pleaded guilty, was committed by Justices of the Peace to the Supreme Court for sentence on four charges of uttering counterfeit half-crowns. The evidence showed that the man was on relief for the past two years, and that the coins were clumsy contrivances of le'ad and solder and were used only for buying food for himself and his wife. Accused had handed to the police plaster of Paris moulds and five other spurious half-crowns he had made.
