A Timely Warning ; A warning to surfers and all who expose themselves to the sun has been issued by the Australian Cancer Conference. Many delegates reported that they had found that sunburn was a potent cause of cancer; and the Conference agreed to a resolution which' emphasises the danger of cancerous conditions following skin irritations caused by sunburn. Successful Shop Day 1 The committee res*ponsible for the Plunket “shop day’’ held yesterday is to be congratulated on the success achieved, the net result being the raising of about. £3O towards the funds. A very attractive collection of goods for the donation of which the promoters express hearty appreciation, was offered in the cake, produce and jumble stalls, meeting with a ready sale. Several competitions were held, these resulting: Box of chocolates, Nurse Lorrigan (Waipukurau Hospital); cake, Mrs E. G'. Dowrick; dinner, Mr N. C. Wylie; pairs of sox, Mrs G. L. Jamieson 1 and Mrs H W. Seajter 2. Artillery Band Concert The items to be givch at the concert arranged .for to-morrow night, in the Municipal Theatre, under the auspices of the Wellington Artillery Band, will include the humorous fantasia “Pop Goes the Weasel” (with effects), the nautical fantasia, “A Sailor’s Memories”, “The Jolly Coppersmith” (with anvil, vocal and whistling effects), a novelty humorous sketch entitled “A Band Rehearsal”, also a euphonium solo ((“Jenny Jones”) by Bandsman R. Fenton, cornet solo “The Rosary”) by Sergeant W. IL Bowman, the deputy-conductor, who is in charge of the band, and a cornet polka duet' (“Besses O’ th’ Barn”) by Bandsmen J. Newton and J. Bagnall. A really attractive programme, when to the features enumerated are added community singing, etc. Live Shell Firing The 7th Field Battery, N.Z. Artillery now in camp on the Waipukurau racecourse, is to hold a live-shell practice from the north end of Middleton road during to-morrow and Friday, between tb>c hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The first authentic display of autumn and winter fashion goods is now on view in our showroom.
