H.M.S. DIOMEDE
, ON A VISIT TO NAPIER OPEN FOR INSPECTION TOMORROW The flagship of the New Zealand division of th© Royal Navy, H.M.S. Diomede, arrived at Napier from Whangaroa and anchored in the roadstead at 6 o’clock yesterday morning, berthing at Glasgow Wharf at 11 o’clock. The official call was paid by the chairman of the Napier Harbour Board, Mr. T. M. Geddis, and His Worship the Mayor, Mr. J. Vigor
Brown, this being returned later at the Mayor’s office by Commodore F. Burgess-Watson, D.S.O. The presence of the cruiser at Napier gave rise to considerable interest yesterday, a large number of people taking the opportunity of going to the Breakwater to inspect her. She is to be open for public inspection tomorrow afternoon, between the hours of tw r o and seven o’clock. The cruiser, which has a displacement of 4765 tons, possesses an armament consisting of six six-inch guns, three four-inch A.A. guns and four torpedo tubes. She was recommissioned at Chatham on October 16, 1930.
