APPEAL UPHELD The appeal of Hector Gray in what is known as the Bronze Tray case, has been successful. This means that the decision of disqualification for three years imposed upon him by the Judicial Committee of the Dargaville Racing Club, and that of the Auckland District Committee of the New Zealand Racing Conference increasing the penalty to disqualification for life, are both wiped out, and Gray is now free to apply for a license either as trainer or rider. CONSISTENT PAIR Eminent is turning out a consistent horse for, in his last five starts, his returns have been three firsts, one second and one third. Eminent has always shown promise (says a contemporary writer), but until recently his efforts lacked the polish of a good performer. He is well bred, and, judging by his present form, he is in line for bigger things. It is pleasing to see Mr. V. Riddiford’s horses to the fore again, and in Eminent or Clangor he may have another Historic Clangor, like Eminent, has also been consistent, and his returns for his last six starts are slightly better than his stablemate’s, though five of them have been in hack company. In his last half-dozen starts he has returned four firsts, a second and a third. His effort at Woodville on the second day was his first in open company, and he did well to finish third. He is well and is improving all the time. GOOD MATERIAL There is material for a good com test in the New Zealand St. Leger, to be decided at Trentham this month, observes the Christchurch Stan With Silver Scorn not eligible, La Modern® and Gold Trail have the best credentials, on Auckland form, but Tout le
Mond, Rocket and Rebel Song are three Riccarton candidates who will make matters interesting for the North Island fillies. NEW ZEALAND-BRED . A two-year-old chestnut colt, by Njgger Minstrel, from Pleasure, by Merry Moment, which was purchased in New Zealand by Mr “D. Lightford” arrived in. Sydney last week by the Wanganella. The colt will go into the stables of J. Speerin, who has recently done well with Fordlight. Before being raced by Speeerin, Fordlight ran in the colours of Mr “Lightford.”
