FASHIONS

ODDS AND ENDS The wind of fashion is blowing; Nothing startling has yet been revealed but who knows what may conic ? It is in all the little details that, we can keep up-to-date and in line with the latest mode; details which we can adapt to our existing frocks. In buying one of the new Tartan suits I did not realise at the time what a gem oi economy I had hit upon. It suited me and I wanted it, so I bought it. Aly tartan has a black background with an all-over pattern of dark green and red. The whole thing is cut on the cross, according to Fashion’s latest edict and is, as a result, very slenderising. Now, in my wardrobe hung a black suit which I was heartily sick ot, yet it was too good to throw away. One morning I fished out the skirt and went shopping in it, with the tartan coat to complete it. The next day 1 went out to lunch in the tartan skirt and black coat. To-day I am all tartan. So, you see. instead of one new rig-out I’ve got three new ones! I am knitting a narrow cravat of orange Angora wool for the coming autumn because, this year scarves should match one’s coat lining. Then, too, I shall wear peccary hogskin gloves, with largo gauntlets. Later, towards winter, I shall have a quartered cap of brown velveteen, and a scarf to match. These velveteen scarves and caps are just terribly chic, and such a becoming style! The newest buttons are quaintlyshaped pearl ones and darkly-tinted glass ones. T love the latter. They should match the material for your garment exactly. Lengths and proportions will not change materially for the next, autumn and winter. Paris has shortened her skirts slightly, while in London the mid-length i' as popular as ever —for the day wear, of course. Waists are narrow and shoulders broad. Skirts are slightly fuller from waist to hip.
