WaipawS, Athletic Club There was a full attendance nt a meeting of tho management committee of the Waipawa Amateur A thiotie Club, called for the purpose of finalising arrangements for the annual sports mooting. Messrs H. Leach, A. Collett, and A. Arnott were selected to ronrc-J sent the club at the sub-centre championships to bo hold at Hastings. T.Tr R. L. Downer was appointed to net as the club’s delegate on the centre. H.B. Ram Fair The Hawke’s Bay Ram Fair opened at tho Showgrounds, Tomoana. this morning, nt 9.30 a.m.. when 3670 -flock Romneys, 140 flock Lincolns, and 15 flock Corriedales will he offered. Tomorrow, commencing at tho same time. 34 flock English Leicesters, 20 flock Border Leicesters, 46 flock Ryelands, 2700 flock Southdowns, 26 stud Romneys (2 p.Tn.), 43 stud Southdowns and 20 stud Southdown ewes will ho offered. Waipawa Fira Brigade The Waipawa Volunteer Fire Brigade intend entering a team ar tho forthcoming demonstration of tho United District Fire Brigades’ Association to be held at Carterton during Faster week, and several members are practising daily, for tho fixture. Napier’s Half-Holiday A meeting of the retailers of Napier who are interested in reverting to tho Saturday weekly half-holiday was held last evening. The meeting was largely attended and was most enthusiastic in its support of the movement. A petition was placed before the meeting ■ which had been signed by over 150 retailors of Napier, who are under the operation of the Shops and Offices Act, and who are petitioning Commissioners of the borough of Napier to rescind, tho present arrangement, rnd to appoint. Saturday as the weekly half holiday. To Meet Higher Exchange At a meeting of the local committee of the Railway Officers’ Institute hold last, evening, it was decided to request the executive in Wellington to make every endeavour to obtain an immediate increase in all salaries of 15 per cent., with a view to offsetting the hardship imposed as a result of the increased exchange rate. Members of the institute are at present experiencing great difficulty in meeting their financial obligations and it is felt that the further lessening of purchasing power will render their position a most hopeless one. Miss N. Wharmby, teacher of pianoforte and theory, will commence tuition on Tuesday, as announced in to-day’s issue of the ‘ ‘Press.’’ Mr .1. H.
