Chinese Will Resist THE JAPANESE MENACE GREATEST TENSION EXISTS By Telegraph —Copyright —Press Assn. SHANGHAI, January 23. It is stated in authoritative sources that an important declaration of further intention to resist the Japanese is imminently expected. Tho deepest pessimism prevails throughout China as the result of the breakdown in tho conciliation procedure at Geneva and the failure of the League of Nations to compel Japan to abide by its decisions. Mr Lo Wen-kan, the Chinese Foreign Minister, warns foreign Powers that, if Japan is permitted to overrun Jchol. the Chinese arc prepared to take steps which will undoubtedly precipitate a crisis in. the Far East in order to demonstrate to the world that China is not prepared to continue to be the catspaw of foreign Powers. The greatest tension exists in the vicinity of Peking. Approximately 200,000 Chinese under various generals are concentrated along the Great Mall, the leaders Laving informed that they are prepared !, io fight to the last man” to prevent further Japanese encroachment.
