BELOW THE ESTIMATE
ARAPUNI REMEDIAL WORK COST SO FAR IS £350,000 (Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, Last Night. In the course of an address to members of the Wellington section of the Now Zealand Society of Civil Engineers, Mr F. W. Furkcrt, enginccr-in-chief of the Public Works Department, stated that the remedial work at Arapuni so far had been carried out at approximately £150,000 below the estimate. The estimate was announced during a long debate in Parliament upon the proposals at £500,000, so that the cost of the work designed to remedy the weakness which developed suddenly in June, 1930, has been, without the control gate, £350.000.
