KAPONGA’S POSITION
REMAINS UNALTERED
CONDITION OF GREY BAR
(Per Press Association) GREYMOUTH, Last Night
The Kaponga’s position has scarcealtered. The bar is quite work-
able, but in the meantime it will only be worked in daylight.
The Karepo and Komata sail to-
morrow at 7 a.m., having curtailed their loading draught to 16 feet owing to soundings to-day at 4 p.m. revealing a minimum depth at high tide of 19 feet.
The preliminary inquiry has been completed by the Collector of Customs (Mr. K. H. Smyth).
The report that the Kalingo signalled that she was striking the bar on Friday is denied by Captain Venn,
the signalmaster, according to the Harbour Board chairman (Mr. McLean), who says that other witnesses at the signal station state that the Kalingo did rot signal that she was
striking the bottom. The bar depth should improve, the tides being two days past zero.
