LEAGUE RUGBY
<s> —: THE ENGLISH TOUR SYDNEY IS OUTCLASSED By Telegraph —Copyright—Press Assn. SYDNEY, Last Night. The English League team, opened its tour at the Sydney cricket ground today against a Metropolitan side. They completely outclassed the local players on a wet and muddy ground in the presence of 42,500 spectators. The •final scores were: England 29, Metropolitan 5. Fourteen penalties wore awarded against the Englishmen in the first half and one against Metropolitan. J. Feetham, a visiting forward was sent off. The Metropolitan players included a mixture of young players and veterans and also three Kangaroos, Maher McMillan and G’rogan. For England Sullivan (captain) scored four goals, Feetham and Brogden each two tries, and White, Smith and Hudson each one try. For Metropolitan O’Connor scored one try and Williams a goal. The “Sunday Sun” says that the Englishmen are a most formidable combination. The majority of the penalties against them wore contravention of the Australian rules, but not of the English rules, upon which a common understanding should be reached.
Brogden, the English wing threequarter. is described as a wonder. With tremendous speed, he pierced the defence as if it wore made of paper.
