MOTOR VESSEL SINKS

WITH LOSS OF LIFE

TRAGEDY IN CHINA

By Telegraph —Copyright —Press Assn.

SHANGHAI, Last Night.

News has been received of a disaster which has overtaken the steamer Hing in the Yangtse Gorges. The vessel struck a rock and sank in two minutes. Forty-five persons arc reported missing, including several foreigners.

The Hing was one of a fleet of fast motor vessels of an American company operating between Shanghai and Ichang through the treacherous gorges known as a shipping graveyard. Navigation at present is extremely difficult. The waters are of a dangerous height with swirling rapids which now cover the vessel, only the tip of her foremast showing.
