Card Tourney. In a shield card tourney, under the auspices of the Independent Order of Oddfellows, hold in Danncvirke last night, the Waipukurau lodge was again successful, retaining possession of this coveted trophy by 13 games to 10. Waipawa Girl Guides. In conformity with the expressed wish of the Commissioner of the Girl Guides, the Waipawa company to-day celebrated the twenty-first anniversary of the birth of the movement by a tree- W planting ceremony in the Domain. Oddfellows’ Ritual Shield. In connection with the Manchester Unity Oddfellows Order ritual competition for the Hawke’s Bay District, the southern section has been won by Loyal Danncvirke Lodge with a margin of about 50 points in excess of the total credited to Loyal Woodville Lodge. Waipawa Church Organ. There was a large attendance at the official handing over to the trustees of the new organ just installed in the Waipawa Methodist Church. The whole of the cost was subscribed voluntarily, and in handing over a clean receipt J Mrs Bott, Sour., expressed the hope that the instrument would be used in the services of the church for many years. During the evening vocal solos were rendered by Mrs Strang, Miss Dyson, Mr Barker, and the Rev. H. Dyson, Miss Major presented several sketches, and Mr S. Bott contributed organ solos. Mr Thackeray, on behalf of the trustees, presented Mr S. Bott with a framed picture of Beethoven in appreciation of his services as organist. Pepper in Picture Theatre. While pictures were being shown in / the Tangarakau Hall recently there was a swish and a rustle. The unmistakable aroma of pepper began to manifest itself with dire results in the crowded hall, reports the “Taranaki Daily News.’’ Investigations revealed Charles John Parsons about to descend from the roof of the hall. The police were informed and Parsons was charged at the Stratford Court with casting pepper into the hall. He did not appear and was fined £l. Sergeant J. J. Power explained that Parsons, having reached the roof of the hall, poured 11b of pepper down a ventilator with the resuit that the people within reach of the condiment left the hall in a hurry. Parsons was caught while he was coming off the roof. The only

reason he gave for his action was that he was “dared” to do it by his friends. “It was an exceedingly silly thing to do,” said Air R. W. Tate, S.AI.
