MUNICIPAL THEATRE

SATURDAY AND MONDAY “SON OF INDIA” On Saturday at 2.30 and 8 p.m. and again on Monday at 8 the charming picture “Son of India” starring Ramon Novarro, which is taken from flic novel “Mr Isaacs” by F. Marion Crawford, will be shown. The story is interesting and holding, whilst it is also plausibly told. There are some capital light touches, charming love episodes and. a good “animal” interest. The picture is resplendent -with picturesque backgrounds, strange sights and unusual costumes, such scenes being faithfully reproduced as the streets and buildings of Bombay, India, with its quaint and colourful bazaars, the rugged mountain passes in which the bandits carry on their nefarious trade, and the jungle scenes in the tiger hunt and elephant stampede takes place. In fact, the scene of the elephant stampede is one of the most exciting shown on the screen. It is doubtful if a villain ever had a more spectacular death than that of Miljan in this episode. It carries the audience to the very edge of their seats and keeps them there. The supporting programme includes News, comedy, “Flip the Frog” cartoon and Sir Harry Lauder, who will again delight us with his singing of

“Toberpory.’ ’ There will be a special matinee on Saturday at 2.30. Coming next week: “Annabelle’s Affairs,” from the play “Good Gracious Annabelle.”
