Mr John Warren, of Waipukurau, is at present on a visit to tho Waikato.

Miss L. M. Lovell-Smith who has been spending a holiday in Hastings has returned to her duties at. Waipukurau Hospital.

The Rev. Father Crocker, of St. Patrick’s College, Wellington, is at present the guest of Mrs G. E. Fowler, Wallace road.

The many friends of Mr Joseph McGrccvy, of Porangahau, will regret that ho has again found it necessary to enter the Waipukurau Hospital.

Mr Thos. Coutts, of the Waipawa Post and Telegraph Department, is now making excellent progress after his recent severe illness.

Miss A. Rood leaves for Wellington to-morrow morning and will stay with her sister, Mrs Murphy, and Professor Murphy.

Mr W. H. L. Williams, who is confined to his home as the result of a recent motor accident, is making pleasing progress toward recovery. Mr J. Wharmby, who sustained injuries in a recent motor mishap. Is progressing steadily toward recovery. He is still a patient in the Waipukurau Hospital. Mrs C. C. Jackson, Dominion President of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union paid an official visit to Dannevirke yesterday, and attended the meeting of the local branch. Mr A. Gorton, Assistant-Dominion Secretary of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, is a visitor to Waipukurau today. Ho visited Pukeora Sanatorium this morning and this afternoon met the committee of the local branch. Sister D. Vereoe, who has resigned from the staff of the Waipukurau Hospital, having accepted a post at the Nelson Hospital, leaves on Tuesday. Her successor, Sister R- M. Black, will take up her new appointment, on June 1. Mr W. G. Bryce has been appointed from a considerable number of applicants to tho position recently advertised as a vacancy on the Central Hawke’s Bay Power Board’s staff, viz., storekeeper-clerk, vice the late Mr G. Smales. In a Press Association message from Christchurch to-day the announcement is made of the death of Mr Richard John Mason (79), of Riccarton, the well-known racehorse trainer. He trained such horses as Gloaming and Biplane. Miss Mary Fish, eldest daughter of tho Rev. Ferguson Fish, now of Dunedin, but formerly minister in charge of St. Andrew’s Waipukurau. is the guest of Mrs E. A. J. Elliott, of Porangahou road, for a week. Miss Fish is on holiday from the School of Dental Nursing in Wellington. Mr J. R. Keenan, late manager for the D.I.C. in Christchurch, who has joined Messrs Baird’s Ltd., Hastings and Waipukurau, as merchandise manager. and staff controller, ,paid a visit to tho Waipukurau branch to-day in. company with Mr H. W. C. Baird, tho managing-director, with view to meeting the local staff and going through the stock. Mr Keenan has enjoyed a wide experience in the drapery trade, including lengthy periods in Auckland and Christchurch, being for the past, three years in the latter city.

: Mr and Mrs A. .E. Mander, now of Lower Hutt, contemplate leaving for England in the near, future. Mr Mander will be remembered by- many Waipukurau people as well as" the W.E.A., for whom he lectured gnd.gave most interesting addresses froip-an educational and scholarly, point of view. The W.E.A. classes were really formed through the influence of Mr Mander, due to the impetus -of his personal attraction and broad sympathy. The W.E.A. drama classes are now active in. every centre, and show what an interest the members have in the movement.,
